Rip!!!!

Doing a little bit of pre-spring cleaning around these parts over the past weekend, including digging into the yarn storage and unfinished projects. I organized most of my stash and put it up on Ravelry so I can actually remember what I have. Most of my stash is single balls of yarn that I bought for design development. Now that I have Raverly, I don't have to worry so much when I loose that yarn label!

We also had a little frogging party:

Victim #1: Phildar Wrap I started back in 2003 or 2004 - I was going to try and finish it during the 1st project spectrum. As you can see, not much progress was made in a positive direction - until now. The reclaimed yarn will hopefully become a nice Affric Cape from Rowan 42.

Recycled Yarn

Proposed Victim #2: The Slip Stitch Jacket - If you remember my previous posts, you know how much trouble I had with the yarn yardage info on this sweater - just needed to buy 4 more balls than what was in the pattern! It has been sitting around for a few months now, and after all that trouble, I'm actually thinking about frogging this finished sweater. I'm not so sure I'm really going to wear it because in my eyes, I look like a football player. What do you guys think? This sweater's fate depends on you! Honestly, I think my body language says it all here, I look uncomfortable. It's actually a really nice, warm, comfy sweater. Mr DB says I'm too hard on myself and it looks great.

Expectant Little Knits

Here are my 2 designs that were in Expectant Little Knits! My first book published designs for 2008:

Lacy Babydoll [Ravelry Link]

Lacy Babydoll

Purple Rain Sleeveless Tunic [Ravelry Link]

Purple Rain Tunic

This design project was really a challenge to me. Fitting a non-pregnant body is one thing, but maternity sweaters need a few more tricks added in for a proper fit. I used Big Girl knits quite a bit to learn how short rows can help add a little room in the places exactly where it's needed. I was a little worried when I sent them off not really knowing if they would fit the models or not, but judging from the final product, I think I can safely say I did ok!

Quick Update

DSL is down again at home, so just a quick update for now!

First, I'm now able to offer neoknits patterns for sale on Ravelry! Yay! It's still in the testing stages, but I'm really excited to be a part of this and to see how it develops. I love that you'll be able to have tons of indie designer patterns at your fingertips!

Second, I've added a little newsletter sign up button to the sidebar. Please sign up if you'd like to keep updated on new patterns and designs in the future.

Third, I've finally received my copy of Expectant Little Knits and the book has some really great patterns from alot of great designers in there. I'm already thinking how to modify some of them for my non-pregnant self (emphasis on non to not create any confusion there!) I'll be able to share pictures of my designs once the net is back up at home.

Overwhelmed: But In A Good Way

Sorry I don't have any knitting progress to show. I'm working on another top secret project for the next SnB book, so sadly no pictures. I so miss personal, blog-able knitting! I'm sorry to be such a drag.

But in other news, ever since December, I feel like my life has just been a whirlwind of activity. There was a wedding to plan, a dress to make, and knitting deadlines to meet.

I got a little downtime on my honeymoon, but then it was right back to the daily grind.

Lately though, I've been overwhelmed by the creative possibilities regarding taking neoknits to the next level. I'm finally getting around to developing my website and planning where to go from here. I would love for neoknits to become my sole career, but financially that is really hard decision to make, so I'm weighing all my options. And if it isn't my sole career, how do I find the time to implement all of the plans I'm dreaming up in my head? Decisions, decisions!

In the meantime though, I'm trying my darnedest to keep those creative juices flowing and to direct them in the most useful manner. It's so easy to get sidetracked when I'm in this mode!
